Letting yourself be seen
A new client recently found my work through Yelp, which has historically not been where most of my clients find me.
The first time she and I spoke, she told me that when she looked at my portfolio, she was struck by a palpable sense of TRUST in every image.
She said it was so clear that each person had such a profound and deep trust in me to capture them in their own magick that she knew I was the one she wanted to photograph her. 🥲
Every single session I do is memorable in its own way, and this is one I will certainly never forget. On the surface, we were creating updated brand imagery. And in reality, we were going so much deeper than that.
We were embracing post-pandemic changes to her physical body that left her feeling uncomfortable and insecure. We were capturing her lineage and the significance of being the first-generation daughter of immigrants in the US (something I personally deeply relate with). We were capturing the strength, power, and pride in her blackness and her identity as a black woman.
Throughout this session, I kept returning to what she said the first time we spoke to each other: it comes down to trust.
K trusted me to not only hold the space creatively for her vision, our vision to come to life. She trusted me with her truth, her fears, her identity, her presence, her essence. I recognize what a profound honor it is for you to trust me with holding that.
And in being able to witness her, I felt so wholly seen in my purpose and mission in this life. And to know that she felt my heart and saw me, even through the noise of a platform like Yelp…it moves me to tears.
In letting yourself be seen and in trusting me to hold the space for you, you're seeing me too. And you're holding space for me to show up and be myself and share my magick with the world, the same way I encourage you to be seen and share yours. And that will never stop being the best damn feeling in the whole wide world.
