Capturing other photographers
Getting to capture other photographers is always an incredible honor and it can also be pretty nerve-wracking.
I know from experience that most photographers LOVE being behind the camera and a lot of us struggle to be comfortable in *front* of the lens.
In addition to that, we usually have ‘high standards’, especially when it comes to images and ourselves and…well, suffice it to say it’s easy to put a lot of pressure on myself and start to get in my head anytime another photographer trusts me to capture them.
And in all truth - these almost always end up being some of my FAVORITE sessions
When we are able to lean into trusting each other and once the walls start to come down and you start to let yourself shine…that’s where the magick lives
This shoot with @elledarcy was a dream-come-true from start to finish. She was honest about how hesitant she felt to be in front of the camera (CAN RELATE) and how often she struggled to love images of herself (ALSO CAN RELATE).
The first thing we did was take some deep breaths together and I reminded her there’s literally NO WRONG WAY to show up and be yourself.
We spent the next two hours creating and playing and capturing this badass woman in all of her glory.
Even before I sent the final gallery to Elle, I knew these images were some of my favorite co-creations ever. Not just because of the finished product (though, I gotta say, the final images are 🔥🔥🔥) but because of the entire experience: Elle’s trust in me, the way she showed up and showed her heart on the day of the session, the palpable SHIFT I could feel in us both by the end of the day…
Elle's response to the final gallery solidified how much this shoot will forever mean to me (and why I do this work in the first place) - “OH MY GAWWWWWD. I’m dying! Never have I ever liked myself in any photos. You captured ME and wow, I cannot deal!”
You and me both, sister 🥲
