Posing vs prompting - what's the difference & why does it matter?
Posing vs giving direction. What's the difference & why does it matter?
Posing generally involves being placed into a particular physical position. Think of major fashion magazine covers or your favorite supermodel moments & chances are high it is posed.
Giving direction is a bit different. It typically involves giving enough guidance to get you moving naturally & creating an environment where you can move into the shapes or 'poses' that feel most authentic.
There's no right or wrong & ultimately it comes down to your preferences & comfort level.
It's important to consider when booking your session bc it can make a *huge* difference, especially if you're new to being in front of the camera. My advice? Find a photographer that is skilled at BOTH!
You want someone who can guide you & work *with* you to create the best container for you to feel fully like yourself, while also being able to recognize when you feel stumped or stuck & can offer up specific poses for you to explore.
I know how awkward & on-the-spot it can feel to be photographed, which is why I always aim for a unique blend of posing & giving direction in my sessions. My goal is always to be able to hold you & guide you; to make you feel comfortable & fully confident in embodying *you*.
This means none of those awkward, silent moments where I'm clicking away & you're left wondering whether or not you're 'doing it right' (reality check- there's no *wrong* way to show up as yourself 😉) and no rigid, barbie-doll poses that don't resonate.
It means you get to show up & be your FULL FUCKING SELF (which honestly feels like an extra big relief, especially these days).
When you show up for your session, we build that container of trust together, so whether you're moving through pose after pose or we're directing you through guided moments, it all feels like a true reflection of *you*.
